The purpose of this research paper is to provide easy to understand statistical information and research on how immigrant, refugees, women, aboriginal and people with disabilities experience racism, and to provide suggestions for resources and action. The presenter hopes that her research serves as a basic introduction for people with no knowledge of how race and gender affect new canadians'lives. This paper discusses the following: a) equity issues, b) current equity leadership theories, c) findings on equality issues within the corporate, government and educational organizations in Canada; and dreaw recommendations and strategies for promoting and advocating equitable practices.

Liliana M. Dominguez, is a PhD Education Candidate at the University of Regina in Saskatchewan, She holds a Spanish/English Translation from the University of Bs. As, Argentina, and an MA TESL/TEFL from the University of Birmingham, U.K. She has extensive experience working as an ESL/EFL instructor in Canada and Argentina. Ms. Dominguez is a Lecturer and Researcher at the University of Saskatchewan and previously held postions as educational administrator at the University of Regina, SK and the Toronto District and Catholic Boards of Education in Toronto, On. Her areas of interest are student success, curriculum development, and equity issues in ESL/EFL field. Ms. Dominguez is the President of SCENES, the Saskatchewan Association of Educators for non English Speakers.
